Pastor's Corner Steve Sumrall
HAITI
Many
have seen the images of Haiti
on the news the past two weeks. I don’t know what it does to you, but it moves
me deeply.
The
last time I was in Haiti it
was in 1970’s. My father, Lester Sumrall, asked me to go to Port Au Prince
and see for myself what was taking place in an orphanage we were sponsoring.
From
that time till now we have been involved in that nation, trying to help those
that need help desperately.
James 2:15-17, tells us that “faith, if it hath not works, is dead.”I’m afraid that many things we do in the
name of the church are “dead works”. Many of those things come from the heart
of man, of religious institutions, certainly not from the heart of God.
James,
the pastor of the first church in Jerusalem,
was very strong in writing this letter, talking about faith. Faith is the
necessary core to our beliefs. If you don’t have the corresponding action to
faith it is absolutely worthless.
Our
ministry, Feeding the Nations, has been involved from the very first moments we
heard of the earthquake in Haiti.
Prior to the earthquake we sent food to Haiti, to the ministry Fishers of Men, with
Pastor Threadgill. When the quake hit we already had on the ground 272,000
meals ready to go! After
the quake, many were able to have life saving food immediately.
We
are also working with out long time friend, Tim Johnson, his wife Trina, and
their family, missionaries to the Dominican
Republic, Haiti’s
neighboring country.They and their
rapid response team have put in many long hours, sleepless nights, and hard
work doing an amazing job of receiving the food, having a plan, then taking the
supplies to the border and into Port Au Prince. They have set up tents,
organized food distributions, assisted medical teams, always giving Jesus, and His love, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom
of Good News.
We
thank God that we have been a part of touching Haiti with the loving touch of our
Savior.
I
just read a news report states that because of the earthquake and after shocks there could be over 1,000,000 new orphans in Haiti.
If
you have helped, God Bless you, if not, would you please send the largest check
you possibly can or push the donate now button on our website for Haiti. We are
using the funds we are receiving for transportation of food, water purifiers,
and tents.
We make sure it gets to the right place, into the right hands, to lift up
the hurting people.
Remember
people of God, this is not optimal; we believe this to be a major part of the
Gospel, helping people in body, soul, and spirit. Declaring
that Jesus is Lord, He is their Savior, and He will give them comfort, even
when the whole world has been shaken.
